Whether you are stretching you legs before or after a big hike in Zion, traveling with a troop of kids, or carrying one on your back, this is an easy but beautiful hike that gives you a taste of the Zion wilderness. And bonus, it's much less crowded than many other hikes!
The hike is short, 2 miles with an optional loop around at the end and gains only ~550 feet of elevation. For hikes in Zion, this is a real relief. The elevation gain is also relatively smooth, nothing too steep.
The trail itself can be a little tricky to find but once you are on the trail, it's easy to follow. From the main Zion Visitor Center, head along the left side of the parking lot next to the river. The trail follows that for 1/4 to 1/3 of a mile before it crosses the roads and heads up into the mountains. You can also access this trail from the Watchman Campground.
Be warned that the hike is quite exposed, meaning that you are in the sun nearly the whole time. So try to avoid this in the heat of the day and even in cooler months, be prepared to heat up in the sun.
We had a lovely picnic dinner at the end of this trail after spending the day touring the rest of the park. We hope you and your family enjoy the hike, too!
